Tales of Curiosity is a beautiful hardcover collection of eight imaginative stories to enchant readers aged 9 to 99. More than a children’s book, it is a keepsake for curious minds and a treasure for any bookshelf.
Written by Hokitika-based biodiversity ranger Sonya McArthur and illustrated by Bevan Smith, the tales carry readers into richly symbolic worlds, full of memorable characters and unexpected journeys. Meet twin boys who take very different paths, a light-footed dancer, a talented thief, and a girl gifted an unusual olive twig. Encounter a river with a mind of its own, a grumpy puppet maker, a shoemaker who joins the circus, and a weaver determined to create something extraordinary.
Told in a timeless, lyrical style, these stories have depth and heart, encouraging readers to slow down, reflect, and see the world with fresh eyes.
Published by Little Love (an imprint of Mary Egan Publishing) and distributed by BookReps NZ. Tales of Curiosity will be available in bookstores nationwide from September 2025.

“Hokitika biodiversity ranger Sonya McArthur first started the book almost 20 years ago… the stories are in the fantasy genre akin to The Chronicles of Narnia, Tales of the Otori, and traditional fables.”
